Darren routinely advises clients on complex insolvency and restructuring mandates, primarily representing business owners and their management teams. Darren also represents a select number of Trustees, private lenders and other creditors in insolvency and restructuring mandates. Darren’s work in insolvency covers both proceedings under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, and the Company Creditors Arrangement Act, where Darren has led the O’Keefe & Sullivan team to become one of the leading firms in Canada based on number of major insolvency cases filed.
In addition to his busy insolvency practice, Darren also represents a host of related owner/operators with their day to day business matters, drawing on the O’Keefe & Sullivan team to ensure the appropriate level of service is always provided to his clients. Darren personally handles complex commercial litigation matters for his business clients, including a significant number of management and shareholder disputes. Over the last twenty years Darren has represented the full complement of corporate clients in business disputes, including several chartered banks, national, and multinational companies, and most importantly, local companies who seek the highest standard of legal representation.
Outside of his practice, Darren has been actively involved with a number of not for profit and industry organizations including Junior Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador, the Canadian Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.
Darren currently sits as the Newfoundland and Labrador representative on the Canadian Bar Association insolvency group.
