Essber is developing a broad commercial practice with a focus on corporate restructuring, bankruptcy, and debtor–creditor law. He joined O’Keefe & Sullivan in 2025 and is a valued member of the firm’s Business Law and Insolvency Litigation teams.
Before joining the firm, Essber articled with Aird & Berlis LLP in Toronto. He holds an LL.B. and an LL.M. in Commercial Law from Damascus University in his home country of Syria, an LL.M. in International Business Law from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio, and a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.
Prior to moving to Canada, Essber practised law in Syria for three years, representing international organizations as well as domestic and foreign financial institutions in a range of legal matters. While in Canada, he also worked in the legal department of a global technical and creative services company serving the video game and entertainment industries.
During his studies, Essber was recognized for his leadership. At Case Western Reserve, he received the Adria J. Sankovic Award for fostering a community of international friendship among his peers. At Osgoode Hall, he was awarded the Dean’s Gold Key Award for his exceptional contributions to the law school and the Cassels Brock & Blackwell Prize for Professionalism.
Outside of his legal practice, Essber enjoys walking, hiking, cooking, and following European soccer. He is fluent in English and Arabic and is pleased to assist clients in both languages.Bar Admissions:
